Blurred Lines:The Little Things Against Women in The Media

Intro:

It has become almost impossible for  women to enjoy most forms of entertainment because of sexist roles or comments directed towards women in these outlets.

Sometimes a women can find themselves so engulfed in a certain  show or with the work of an certain artist-musician, who in turn doesn't regard respectable roles in their work for women.

I think most women have been victims of such contradictions to their own faith as feminists or just plain women who feel they should be respected.

Women these days are psychologically driven to enjoy most big screen movies, shows and music by men or other women who fail to these how certain derogatory roles and name calling hurt women.

Even the tiniest of things start to add up ,like the way women should maintain themselves.

Just the other night I was hanging out with my male friend when I got an itch in my winter-no-shave-very-hairy-legs, as I lifted my pants sleeve to scratch .I then  felt ashamed as he had seen them.

While he only laughed because I had unthoughtfully pointed them out I felt ashamed, almost disgusted with myself. That kind of mentality is all the result of male based oppression of how a women should maintain themselves in order to be seen as attractive and "presentable" to the world.

I honestly think how it's totally fucked how women's first sign of puberty is regarded as disgusting while males is encouraged for their ego.

Feminists based celebrities and Tumbler hipsters have fought the clean shaven women ideal.Such celebrities as Miley Cyrus even dyed her pit her florescent colors as a form of rebellion.

While I myself have yet to gain the courage of letting it all grow out.I'll probably need some form of therapy first.

However I am well aware and against the pink tax that makes most women's products at a higher expense for their "high-maintenance packaging".Like how fucked and sexists can that get?

Why are National Musicians Ignored in American Media Outlets?

While most American based bands are amazing ,there has been a rise in the bouquet of talent from all over the world recently.

In the past there has been the  cultural influence/ clash of other national bands rising to the scene. However in America it has always been that if they don't speak the glorified langue they're not really worthy of consideration.

You might think I'm culturally misinformed and that in fact a large majority of Americans are culturally considerable of national talents. However not many of those talents are being represented in our media outlets as worthy of our time. That's understandable of us to not acknowledge national sources for talents, when they don't speak or propose ideas we can't  fully understand yet we still shouldn't miss them all together.

South Americans ,Europeans,Asians gorge on our culture influence so much that they care to grasp it's complexities .American musicians have and always will be the great landmark of the free ,bohemian pop star embodiment. After taking from the another English based country ,England the mother country of nation infatuation with rock and roll (the Beatles) that changed us and the whole world taste in music.

The Beatles revolutionized America as they did with other countries, mainly European but they still had a great effect on music widely. That same influence has remained the same since the sixties. If music and culture is not flowing from  the US  its been thrown back from the UK and of course that weird occurrence of Canada. It's hard to take in consideration non regional culture if we have nothing to do with it yet if you do you will be more culturally informed and will know of artists no one knows about. Artists that are just as good than American artists but always different.

To start you off here's a few of my favorite nationals.

Movies of Adventures and Misadventures Because Life is Weird.

Movies of Adventures and Misadventures Because Life is Weird.

Life is just as interesting as it is mundane, or boring as it is weird. Some days we are spurred with opportunities and ideas and some are ordained, dutiful days.

Most days in an ordinary life sometimes seem as though they lack substance of vibrancy. However, these movies prove that life underneath is an aloof improvisation that is filled with confusion and weird encounters.

Although we take for granted these weird instances they are what make for an 'interesting' life .Life a great mystery itself is always better justified and better renowned on the a screen.

1)Valerie and Her Week of Wonders

This film its self is a distanced portrayal of a girl's living circumstances as she becomes a women. She(Valerie) after starting menstruation is conflicted with perverse men,a lover, and jealous women. Her blood for then and on is considered sacred, her beauty and youth is largely longed for. This movie is largely relevant in that most young women that go through menstruation start to experience such things.A greatly weird and sensual film that wraps up the strange inclinations a women can experience.

2)Daisies

An almost silent film, all its great mastery is all on its cinematography.More of a great comedy than a mystery yet it is strange at times. This film depicts the life of two young, beautiful girls that grow bored with life. They then an embark on a series of shenanigans as a way to asset their leisurely lives.A most delightful film that proves that life it self as mundane should be just as fun.

3)Lollipop Monster

This movie is tells the story of two young girls and their experiences through their daily blatant and sometimes painful lives.A good depiction of how a strong friendship bond can conquer all.Adolescents conquering the pains of life with art, music and sex. They sublimate the rawness of hard times, in the day to day lives of teenagers. While in the wake of their sexual exploration and intellectual identification, with the usual or unusual family tensions they must conquer all.

4)Pan's Labyrinth

The tale of a young girl in the midst of a new domestic and drastic life change. As her ill mom remarries to an army general ,which puts her in a place of danger ,violence and  isolation. She then retrieves to a labyrinth in which she then encounters Pan ,a mythological creature from her adored fantasy books .He then assigns her three tasks to grant her immortality as she is believed to be the princess of mythological kingdom she is to inherit. It embrace's life's difficulties in the fight for a better after life.

Indie Films That Make Adolescence More Tolerable

1) Angus,Thongs and a Perfect Snogging

This film addresses the pains of growing up and going through those awkward ,awful teenage years in life. The struggle of fitting in a looney school that glorifies popularity in the figure of the skinny, blonde fake barbie girl dominance. The terrifying infatuation and anxiety one feels with our first serious crush. This is movie is the more PG ,UK version of Mean Girls with less focus on mean girls but a close friendships.

2)Submarine

This is another great indie film from the UK.This film is painfully hilariously abstract about life's adversities.About a boy meets girl scenario involving Oliver, and Jordana a tough girl, bully who Oliver compliant as they are both deemed as outcasts at their school.Oliver who who is trying to find  defiance in life ,while saving his parents marriage finds himself struggling to manage all aspects of his life.

3)Ameile

This French indie is as tragic as it is hilarious. This movie takes on the life of a French gal Ameile and her tragic past. Ameile just an ordinary girl ,sets to better the life of those she encounters in her daily living to returning lost treasures to strangers. When one day she  finds a photo album and sets to return it to its owner who she then falls in love with and pursuits to finding .

4)Frances Ha

Set in black and white to add nice indie, classical touch. It is a film that tells a story about a girl who is awkward in her naturea. She struggles with simple things like being "likable" enough for a guy to keeping up with the adult life of finances. It has a right down to earth feeling in that it is Gordad-ian ,French aesthetic with a dilalogue that plays resemblance to a Woody Allen hopeless romantic idealism.

5)Ghost World

Based on two best-friends who have nothing entitled to their name after  high-school,who then began a life of job hunting and face the atrocities of real life. One of them(Rebecca) manages to keep up with the real life while the other(Enid) has problems being complaisant in the work field .Enid then finds comfort in an elderly man and leaves all hopes of moving out and getting her life together.

Defunding Of Planned Parenthood:Texas

Oct.19 Texas  governor,Greg Abbott announced the defunding of Planned Parenthood’s medicaid program.

That same day ,Texas Health and Human Services Commission inspector general Stuart W. Bowen Jr. in a written statement sent to the organization declared,“the State has determined that you and your Planned Parenthood affiliates are no longer capable of performing medical services in a professionally competent, safe, legal and ethical manner, and that as a result, Planned Parenthood will be cut out of the state Medicaid program. “

According to slate.com,the only  government funding that goes to Planned Parenthood in Texas  goes only those who qualify for simple Medicaid. In Texas it requires a strict financial standing yearly income of $3,760  , for a family of three to qualify for Medicaid and adults with no dependents cannot qualify.

Now with that taken away Texas’ low-class, women will be helpless and incapable of receiving any care. The already impossible just got a whole lot  worse for women’s affordable health care.

Perhaps other facilities  can  try and replace the work and care Planned Parenthood has done over the years. However this is not to be done so easily as such a huge responsibility is being left in minor facilities that are only sidesteps  in comparison to a   such major health facility that’s taken care of women for years.

Last year alone Planned Parenthood provided cancer screenings for nearly 3,000 Texas women  according to the CDC. Among other services provided were preventive care ,pap tests, birth control, pelvic exams ,mammograms and other services among  the condemned abortion in the face of Republicans.

Medicaid brings about one third of money for planned parenthood and such a cut can mean no good for the organization according to texasmonthly.com.
Not only is the defunding of the organization a problem but it also affects availability. In places like Waco there is no alternative providers but that of Planned Parenthood and poor residents in the area are left without any hope of service.

The Bowen’s statement letter  and  recent law proceedings in the name of Planned Parenthood are a weak excuse in response for the allegations of supposed Planned Parenthood undercover recordings of their facilities including one in Houston.

This summer in July, speaker of the House Mr.Boehner urged to have an investigation of Planned Parenthood. In which around the same time an anti abortion group began posting videos online of the secretly recorded videos according to Ny-Times.com

Analyst Glen Simpson of Fusion GPS,a Washington based research  and corporate intelligence company said about the investigated videos,...”they do not present a complete or accurate record of the events they purport to depict.”

The significant ,and largely entitled corporation for the well being of women is now jeopardized over such falsehood which excuse  Texas lawmakers to denounce all that is reasonable and equally fair for the women of their state.

According to yahoo health.com there has been no fetal tissue donation or collection  in Texas since the 2010-2011 and, only one Planned Parenthood clinic participated in fetal tissue donation program.

It’s been legally proven that the organization is not doing anything against the law yet conservative lawmakers are blindsided to anything that dignifies women.

“We will fight back against this outrageous, malicious, political attack in Texas with everything we've got, and we will protect women's access to the health care they need and deserve”,Dawn Laguens, executive vice president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement to the Associated Press.

The Famous Lightining Bolt

Striking Revelations of the Lightning Bolt!

I've recently have acquired the temptation to embed a lighting bolt deep in my skin.I first came upon this idea after seeing a portrait of my most constant ,remarkable idol ,Patti Smith with a tattoo on her right knee.

I believe that this is urge might also be another impulse of mine to get off my system. I've thought about it and if anything is to be inked in my flesh for life is this.

I tend to model myself after the beloved grandmother of punk rock. She is a prodigy that continues to influence girls and artists, to carry on .For girls she is a feminist goddess, who set many firsts for the upcoming, liberated female musician. She herself is the embodiment of feminist power house that radiates energy to all girls that feel  neglect for their sexuality, class,or other general standings.

Patti is a great musician and writer.I myself consider her early life memoir ,Just Kids  a great examination of a life of an artist in the New York scene.A lover of classical  French poets, cinema and painters.A founder of punk  rock and great aspiration to the many great female musicians of today.

Patti Smith gives me great hope in that she herself embodies the idea that a female musician can make a respectable name for herself. She also has achieved a successful music career,  raised a family and managed writing career on the side. She has given me hope in many ways in my troubled youth.

Although nothing as great as the queen ,I always looked up to her in my moments of self doubt and self growth.I know I'm no musician or legitimate writer ,but in many ways I found myself longing to be one.For that I want something that reminds me of her profoundly and all that she means to girls like me.

However I have not completely resolved how she herself came with the idea of the lighting bolt tattoo all so surely.I found two quotes from her memoir that seem to clarify things a bit.

From her book Just Kids she mentions the novel Crazy Horse :

I thought of something I learned from reading Crazy Horse: The Strange Man of the Oglalas by Mari Sandoz. Crazy Horse believes that he will be victorious in battle, but if he stops to take spoils from the battlefield, he will be defeated. He tattoos lightning bolts on the ears of his horses so the sight of them will remind him of this as he rides. I tried to apply this lesson to the things at hand, careful not to take spoils that were not rightfully mine.”

In another excerpt from her memoir, she mentions a girl in which she is influenced by her image to get the tattoo.

"I decided I wanted a similar tattoo. I was sitting in the lobby drawing versions of lightning bolts in my notebook when a singular woman entered. She had wild red hair, a live fox on her shoulder, and her face was covered with delicate tattoos. I realized that if one erased the tattoos, they would reveal the face of Vali, the girl on the cover of Love on the Left Bank. Her picture had long ago found a place on my wall.

"I asked her outright if she would tattoo my knee. She stared at me and nodded in assent, not saying anything. In the next few days we arranged that she would tattoo my knee in Sandy Daley’s room, and that Sandy would film it, just as she had filmed Robert getting his nipple pierced, as if it were my turn to be initiated."

That in the name of the punk goddess gives me an good enough nudge to ink my skin. However, not entirely convinced I have found other great inspirations from other icons of the scene who rocked the lighting bolt.

The likes of David Bowie who glorified the striking ,lighting bolt face makeup.David Bowie, whom in his Ziggy Stardust phase,he glamorously wore.

David Bowie ,himself was influenced by no other than the king,Elvis Presley.

Presley a great influence of Bowie's in many aspects, like choice of body suits and mullet like hair. They both recorded for RCA and they both even had the same birth date.

Bowie's adaptation of his Ziggy phase was once again a greatly influenced by the ring the king often wore.

"The lightning bolt motif Bowie wore for the Aladdin Sane album cover was partly inspired by a ring that Elvis wore – which had a lightning bolt emblem along with the letters TCB.  Of course, Elvis was more famous for his TCB pendants than his ring, but that’s beside the point," according to elvisblog.com

My Writing inspirations:Tavi Gevingson ;Being a multi-artist

My inspiration :Why I Write

I don't remember ever being in love with the idea of writing but more with the idea of sharing something with others. In an over all sense that's exactly what writing might be.All good writing is done from a core within the writer that later seeks to be dug out by others and be understood.Someone who is in pain may only write to vent ,to let emotions come out , in turn it can also serve the reader to understand that emotion on another perspective.

I myself write about topics that have occurred or inspired to me.I love writing about music and art as a idea to share with others because I love such topics.Ever since high-school I knew I wanted be a music writer no matter all the bad shade thrown at women in the field. However I grew out of wanting to strictly write about music because there's so much more that effects me daily and I want to be able share those impacts.

Topics that catch my attention as a writer are women's rights, psychology, travel, decor and most types of art including
painting, photography, poetry, literature, film and fashion. The reason I specifically center around these topics is because as a writer I respect such work immensely. Mostly because the work in such fields, I have myself longed to produce.Although I love writing as both an art and as a medium to interact with others ,I have always longed to be a multi-artist.I only get a glimpse of the work when writing about it ,yet  I rather write about it than not have any association at all.

As a writer who is interested in multiple topics I have always been inspired by publications zines like Rookie magazine,Dazed and Confused,I-d magazine,Interview magazine,Nylon and my recent favorite Austere magazine.Austere is home based publication here in Denton/Dallas, Texas.Their topics include topics on fashion, music, art forms, and people.I wish I had known about them much  earlier because they are magnificent and a great bunch of individuals .I hope be as bold as them, and make my produce in a formal not so formal way.Work for the men while doing what I love.

Individuals ,more like heroines like Petra Collins and Tavi Gevingson from Rookie Magazine have set the doors and liberated so many young girls and guys. They write about daily life problems and in that style they prove to  be exceptionally like no other publishing site. They are an open book of great art fumes and condolences ,wrapped in sympathy for all lost teenagers. There's not a day when my writing doesn't reflect the values and humanism ideals of being a young teenage girl because of the confidence they have provided me with so.My honest writing has been greatly influenced by them.Yes,Tavi Genvingson is my ultimate hero and I thank her for allowing such movement in the publishing works to be abound. All in hope I will work to become someone like her a young women and a great vision that helped many.
